The Joy of Pilgrimage (Resurrection Press, 2007): Lori’s most recent book explores the topic of sacred travel through descriptions of pilgrimages around the world, including Lourdes in France; Santiago de Compostela in Spain; and Iona in Scotland.
Iowa: Off the Beaten Path (Globe Pequot Press, Eighth Edition, 2007): Journey with Lori as she explores the highways and byways of her home state, from the Bridges of Madison County to the Loess Hills.
Sweet Corn & Sushi: The Story of Iowa & Yamanashi (McMillen Publishing, 2004): This bilingual book in English and Japanese was chosen as the 2004 Iowa Stories selection and was given to 40,000 kindergarteners by Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack.
The Mighty Mississippi: A Traveler’s Guide (Globe Pequot Press, 1995): With this guide in hand, travelers can explore the attractions, lore, and history of America’s greatest river.

Lori is the also the author of three collections of ghost stories published by Quixote Press in 1987 and 1988: Ghosts of Johnson County, Iowa; Ghosts of Linn County, Iowa; Ghosts of the Amana Colonies.

Lori has published more than 500 articles in regional and national publications that include National Geographic Traveler, Family Circle, House Beautiful, Woman’s Day, Travel & Leisure, Better Homes & Gardens, Family Fun, Midwest Living, Endless Vacation, AAA Living, Beliefnet, The Christian Science Monitor, Chicago Tribune, and Kansas City Star. While much of her work focuses on travel, she also writes essays, profiles, self-help pieces, and family and health-related articles. In addition, she has written for university publications, corporations and non-profit institutions.
